It is estimated that over 95% of the worlds seed diversity has gone extinct in the last 25 years due to industrial living practices. This is an astonishing statistic and one that most cannot fully comprehend the implications of because most modern people no longer live in way that is intimately connected to land. Our main goal at Panya Forest however is to keep the seeds alive. Both seeds of plants and seeds of culture.
As one our elders, Martin Prechtel reminds us, our current state of ecological crisis is rooted in the rapid disappearance of biodiversity, indigenous cultures, and shared human values. Real human culture is exterminated when real (not genetically modified) seeds are lost. Like plants that become extinct once their required conditions are no longer met, authentic, unmonetized human cultures can no longer survive in the modern world. To “keep the seeds alive”—both literally and metaphorically—they must be planted, harvested, and replanted, just as human culture must become truly engaging and meaningful to the soul, as necessary as food is to the body. The viable seeds of spirituality and culture that lie dormant within us need to “sprout” into broad daylight to create real sets of cultures welcome on Earth.
We do not offer specific workshops on this, but live it daily. However, welcome anyone wishing to go deeper to reach out to us so we can create something together that meets your specific needs. We regularly host student groups, farmers, etc. and are happy to pollinate with you as well.
Stay tuned for details regarding an International seed-saver gathering occurring later this year, a collaboration with our friends at Pun Pun and many others.
