Miguel Garrido

Permaculture Designer & Communications Lead

Miguel was born in Valparaíso, Chile, and grew up surrounded by the country’s diverse landscapes, from native forests to vast deserts and pristine skies.

His connection with nature began through early interactions at his backyard in southern Chile. Years later, it grew through hands-on experiences, from taking care of plants to managing his household compost

Inspired by his mother’s love for plants, Miguel developed a profound appreciation for the natural world, alternative medicine, and nourishing food.

His journey into farming began in 2016 in New Zealand, where he first started growing food.

In 2020, he took a Regenerative Agriculture course in Spain, deepening his knowledge of soil health, biodynamic farming, and crop management. He then continued to expand his skills through a Permaculture Design Course (PDC) in Portugal in 2021. Most recently, in 2024, he spent eight months in Pai, Mae Hong Son, learning about organic farming practices and rural life.

Today, Miguel is dedicated to integrating regenerative practices into his daily life, cultivating his own food, and learning everything from natural building to animal care and healthy food systems. He sees farming as a powerful way to reconnect people with the interconnected systems of plants, animals, water, and soil—elements essential for a balanced and thriving life.

Recognizing the climate crisis as a defining challenge of our time, Miguel believes that ecological issues are deeply intertwined with social crises. Addressing environmental degradation, he argues, requires tackling systemic inequalities and fostering community resilience. His vision is to create regenerative systems that not only produce abundant harvests but also empower communities to build resilience, restore ecosystems, and cultivate a more equitable and sustainable future.
